The African Cotton Association (ACA) was born in Cotonou, Benign, on September 19, 2002.
Its role is to organize and defend the African cotton fields threatened by the anti-competitive commercial practices (subsidies to production and exportation).
The ACA wants also to be a framework of experience sharing between African cotton companies on the agronomical, industrial and commercial levels.
Every year, the ACA organizes, as a fringe event of its occupational dinner, a technical seminar which gathers all the professionals of the cotton industry: producers, traders, industrialists, etc.
The ACA decided to reinforce its establishment in Africa. At its last meeting, held in Ouagadougou, March 2005, it welcomed membership from Zambia at the Management Committee. It is important to point out that the ACA currently has 25 active members (cotton and shelling companies) distributed in 14 countries, 5 associate members (producers, textile industries and oleaginous industries) and 41 corresponding members (banks, insurance companies, forwarding agents, etc.).
The Chairman of ACA is Mr. Ibrahima Malloum, General Manager of COTONTCHAD. Mr. Ahmed Bachir Diop, General Manager of the SODEFITEX in Senegal is the first Vice-President in charge of the communication and Mr. Célestin T. Tiendrebeogo of the SOFITEX in Burkina Faso, is the second Vice-President in charge of the establishment in Africa.
